Commitment, not income, shoulddetermine who takes partin Blue Motion

The residency is shaped by the people
who take part in it.

Three weeks of water dance, freediving,
and filmmaking — with accommodation, a
studio, and a warm pool: the spaces
where the work can unfold.

Support makes it possible for water
artists and visual artists to take part
when the full cost of being there would
otherwise leave them outside.

What your support makes possible

We are raising €10,000 so that commitment and readiness can matter more than the ability to cover the full cost.

Support goes towards:

  • Scholarships for Emerging Artists - Helping talented participants join the residency regardless of their financial circumstances, ensuring money is never a barrier to artistic growth.

  • Bringing Together Seven International Teachers - Covering the real costs of their travel, accommodation, and participation so they can share their expertise, methods, and time with the group.

  • Creating the Conditions for Creation - Securing the right spaces, water environments, locations, and practical support to allow participants to learn safely, experiment freely, and focus entirely on their work.

Every amount matters

Even smaller contributions add up and help create the conditions for artists to learn, experiment and make their films. Larger gifts allow us to confirm scholarships and bring teachers faster.

Wider context

Images of the natural world are everywhere, yet the ocean is often presented as spectacle, resource, or backdrop — rather than as a living environment we are in relationship with.

Blue Motion explores another way of creating images of water through direct, embodied experience.

This approach means:

  • meeting the marine environment through breath, attention and physical presence
  • using movement and freediving as ways of sensing and relating to water
  • treating the camera as an extension of perception, rather than simply a tool for capture
  • creating films through depth, presence and sustained creative process rather than accelerated content production

The films can carry these perspectives beyond the residency, offering new ways of seeing and relating to water.

What remains after the residency

Blue Motion is not only about the three weeks in Dahab.

During the residency, participants develop films and artistic work through an ongoing process of movement, water, camera and collaboration.

The work continues beyond the residency through:

  • films and visual works created by participants
  • new collaborations between artists from different places and disciplines
  • practices and methods carried into their own work
  • documentation of the process and work created together

The residency ends, but the work, relationships and ideas continue beyond it.
