Expanding accessto embodied ocean-based arts education
Blue Motion is an artist-led, non-commercial educational initiative focused on embodied practice, ocean-facing storytelling, and movement-based filmmaking. The program brings together somatic freediving, water dance, and film creation within a 21-day immersive learning environment.
At present, Blue Motion operates as a self-initiated project without institutional or external funding. Participant fees sustain the core structure of the program. To ensure access for artists and practitioners with limited financial means, we are seeking scholarship partners and grant support.

Relevance

We are living in a time when images of the natural world circulate widely, yet are often produced without lived relationship, embodied understanding, or ecological accountability. Oceans in particular are frequently represented as spectacle, resource, or backdrop, rather than as living systems in relationship with human bodies.

Purpose of Scholarship Support
Scholarship and grant support enables Blue Motion to:
- Offer partial tuition support to low-income and under-resourced participants
- Increase access for artists, educators, and facilitators working outside commercial systems
- Maintain a small cohort size that allows for depth, mentorship, and ecological responsibility
- Ensure that participation is based on commitment and readiness rather than financial capacity
Supported participants are selected through the same application and interview process, with financial need considered alongside artistic and professional alignment.
Who Scholarships Support
Scholarship recipients often include:
- Emerging and independent filmmakers
- Movement practitioners, dancers, and somatic educators
- Ocean workers, freedivers, and environmental communicators
- Artists and facilitators working in community, education, or non-profit contexts
These individuals often serve as cultural multipliers, carrying the learning from Blue Motion into broader educational, artistic, and ecological fields.

Partnership Approach
We view scholarship sponsorship as a partnership, not a transaction. Grant partners and foundations may be acknowledged publicly (where appropriate) and are welcome to receive:
- Program documentation and outcome summaries
- Access to completed films or selected works
- Reflections on learning impact and participant trajectories
We are open to shaping reporting formats in alignment with funder requirements while maintaining the integrity of the artistic process.
Invitation to Collaborate
We welcome conversations with foundations, cultural institutions, environmental funds, and individual grant-makers interested in supporting:
- Embodied arts education
- Ocean and ecological storytelling
- Independent, artist-led learning models
- Long-form creative processes with lasting cultural impact

Together, we can help ensure that meaningful ocean-based storytelling is shaped by lived relationships, embodied knowledge, and long-term care for the worlds it represents.
